The only true way to do excellent work is to be enthusiastic about what you do...
From Chemistry to Chess: A Journey Fueled by Enthusiasm
Born and raised in communist Hungary, I learned the value of resilience, resourcefulness, and dedication early on. My parents and grandparents instilled in me the importance of hard work and finding the best solutions to any challenge. These lessons have guided me throughout my life, keeping me enthusiastic and driven in everything I do.
Though my initial passion was chemistry, and I earned an MS from Eötvös Loránd University, life had other plans. After moving to the U.S. with my husband, I embraced new opportunities—from working in male-dominated research labs at the University of North Carolina to pipetting samples for cancer research at Duke, all while raising three children and completing a PhD in California. Each chapter brought new challenges, and I met them with curiosity and determination.
Over time, I discovered that my true passion lies in working with people, building communities, and helping others succeed. Life led me to chess, where I've channeled my enthusiasm into organizing tournaments, fostering young talent, and creating smooth event experiences. Now, as the community manager at Chess.com, I help guide a global chess community and arbiter major events like the Speed Chess Championship, Champions Chess Tour, and many other notable events.
Enthusiasm is key for me. When you're passionate about what you do, work transforms into something you love. I strive to help others find that excitement by organizing world-class events or mentoring future arbiters.
